The Watling Warriors get “Pretty Muddy” at Cancer Research Event

Mud and mayhem awaited the Watling Warriors at this year’s Pretty Muddy 5K obstacle course, held at Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent. Always champions of putting the fun in fundraising, Cancer Research’s annual Pretty Muddy event on Sunday 8th of July enjoyed excellent weather and a large turnout of ladies ready to defeat the course – including Watling Tyres’ very own Watling Warriors!

5K of Muddy Madness

Combining a 5K run with challenging obstacles – plus plenty of mud – the Pretty Muddy event was the ideal way to get fit, have fun and raise money. Located in the beautiful Mote Park, participants savoured the stunning Kent countryside as they embarked on their adventure that saw them scale a-frames, wade through mud pits and commando crawl under nets.

Cheering on the Watling Warriors!

Here at Watling Tyres, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to send along a squad of our own – and so, the Watling Warriors was formed, made up of a team of ladies from our Head Office who were ready to get messy in the name of charity. We put in great performance, and all team members successfully defeated the course and crossed through the finish line.

An Incredible £1,600 Raised

To top off a fun-filled day, the Watling Warriors’ efforts were rewarded with over £1,600 raised for Cancer Research – and counting! The money will go towards essential research and exploration of new ways to beat cancer. Overall, the day was truly memorable, with a strong feeling of esprit de corps – a big well done to the Watling Warriors!

Watling Tyres are Now 100% Owned by Directors

Watling Tyres are happy to announce that we are now 100% owned by our directors. These changes are thanks to our continued success and growth, which has prompted us to undergo a company restructuring that reflects our progression.

What has changed?

Previously, Watling Tyres was 49% owned by Universal Tyres, a partnership that has helped our company to thrive over the years. However, after successive years of sustained growth and a turnover last year in excess of £25 million, a decision was made to transfer the ownership of this share lack to our Director and Chairman, Mr. Norman Flury.

How did the change occur?

We’re now nationally recognised as a premier tyre dealership and MOT business, ranking 19th of Tyre Accessories’ 2017 leading UK tyre retailers, and we felt it was time to be responsible in every way for our company. Watling Tyres was advised by law firm Thomson Snell & Passmore during the share purchase process to help the transaction proceed smoothly.

How will this change benefit our customers?

Our team hopes that the transfer of this ownership percentage will help our company continue to grow in the future, and will provide more support to our loyal customer base.

Roger Flury, director of Watling Tyres, said: “We are delighted to have concluded this transaction which secures 100% ownership of our company. We can now work to recognise our long-term objectives, which include expansion and refurbishment of selected depots and continuing to focus on offering our customers the best possible service available.”

Watling Tyres would like to thank our customers, our 135 loyal employees for making this change possible, and also for the invaluable advice from Joanne at Thomson Snell & Passmore, Claire at The Carley Partnership, and Nigel at Barclays.

Watling Tyres At The Second Hankook Golf Classic

The rain held off last week in Daventry, just enough to allow for the second Hankook Golf Classic to take place – and Watling Tyres were honoured to have taken part in raising money for the fantastic cause, Transaid.

Hosted by the Hanbury Manor Hotel & Country Club, our very own Patrick Laming, General Manager, took part on the day, helping to raise £640. Patrick was also accompanied by colleagues Roger Flury, Managing Director, and Nigel Payne, Operations Director. The money will go towards solving challenging transport issues in economically developing countries.

Transaid works to ensure both vehicles and drivers are safer, resulting in fewer fatalities and injuries on the road where standards might not be as high as in the UK.

Patrick Laming said: “I would like to thank all Hankook staff for what was yet another outstanding event. The course was extremely challenging for some of us but hugely enjoyable, the highpoint being birds of prey flying at low level overhead! The evening stepped-up a further gear with a culinary treat. In short, great event, great company, great manufacturer.”

The winner of the charity tournament was Richard Osbourne from Trinity Tyres, with other teams from Tyreshop, Nuneaton Exhaust Centre and Southern Tyre Co. taking part.

Representing the Hankook team, Jong Jin Park, UK Managing Director, took part, and said: “We have worked with Transaid since 2006 and always take every opportunity to support them in their valuable work to solve transport challenges in economically developing countries. The Hankook Classic Golf days are a fantastic way to raise crucial funds to help Transaid continue to deliver professional driver training projects which aim to make drivers more competent, vehicles safer, and reduce death and injury on the road. We look forward to many more events like this in the future.”
