New Goodyear 4x4 Wrangler
New Goodyear 4x4 Wrangler New Goodyear 4x4 Wrangler AT/SA tyre with DuPontTM Kevlar® Goodyear launches new 4x4 tyre with revolutionary SilentArmor Technology for exceptional on- and off-road performance Brussels, Belgium, February 10, 2009 - The new Wrangler AT/SA from Goodyear featuring SilentArmor Technology fulfils the needs of 4x4 drivers who want to have excellent performance both on and off the road. The tyre allows driving with confidence on rough roads, thanks to the durability of two layers made with DuPontTM Kevlar®, a material stronger than steel, and DurawallTM sidewall reinforcement that enhances cut resistance in the sidewalls. Strength and Silence in Technology Goodyear's SilentArmor Technology combines strength with silence. The Wrangler AT/SA features two high-tensile steel belts to improve the tyre's strength and two layers which improve the tyre's resistance to punctures in the tread. These two layers are made with DuPontTM Kevlar®, which is a material five times stronger than steel. Drivers can enjoy the added benefit of a smooth, quiet ride that comes from Kevlar®, as this material helps to absorb road noise. The Kevlar layers act as a sound barrier, reducing noise for an especially quiet ride. The sophisticated tread block sequence and shifting of the Wrangler AT/SA also provides a quieter and more comfortable ride. The addition of a centre-line rib on larger sizes not only helps to improve on-road handling but is another contributor to tyre noise reduction. Tyres Designed for All Roads The many features of the Wrangler AT/SA reinforce the tyre's strength and handling abilities for both on and off the road. Excellent traction and wet performance The Wrangler delivers excellent performance in wet and slushy conditions, both on and off the road. An open tread design with a high blade density provides better aquaplaning resistance, while the open intermediate treads groove, deep shoulder notches and multiple block edges and traction ridges ensure increased mud evacuation for better off-road traction. The Durawall sidewall reinforcement also improves the tyre's resistance to punctures and cuts in the sidewall. Improved on-road handling The Wrangler AT/SA features stiff shoulder blocks that ensure tread rigidity for improved on-road traction and handling. The addition of a centre-line rib on larger sizes also helps improve not only the on road handling but also helps reduce noise. Reduced balancing over lifetime The new Wrangler AT/SA features an enhanced rim lock and a new anti-slip contour. This provides a stronger, more stable bead area and reduces rim slip for reduced balancing throughout the life of the tyre. On the road, additional radial and longitudinal biting edges of the high blade density tread provide better grip in the wet. Stiff shoulder elements provide the required tread rigidity for improved on road traction and handling. Extensive Tyre Tests Extensive tyre tests on the company's on and off road test facilities show that the Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA gives drivers the performance they need in on and off road conditions. The Wrangler AT/SA outperforms its major competitors and its predecessor in both wet braking and wet handling tests. Improved Tread Design The Wrangler's innovative tread design and compound offer many benefits in terms of on and off road performance. The new polymer blend of the Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA is good not only for the environment due to its low aromatic oil content; it also provides excellent wet grip and mileage together with good off-road performance, while the tread's high cut resistance also helps ensure good off road performance. The open intermediate tread grooves also provide increased mud evacuation for better off-road traction. The open tread design with a high blade density, on the other hand, offers better aquaplaning resistance. For more information on Goodyear and its products go to www.goodyear.com.
